We're looking for a passionate entry-level Chemist / Forensic Screens Technologist to join the largest health care diagnostic company in the world as an important part of the 3rd shift team. This role is a 6+ month contract and provides exceptional experience with a well-known and admired company! The position is onsite in the Saint Paul Medtox Laboratory and is Wednesday – Saturday from 9pm – 7:30am – 4 Day Workweek!

What You'll Do:

The Forensic Laboratory Team is is seeking a science professional that is looking to use their science degree / background and receive on the job training working in a fast-paced environment for performing routine drug testing in patient samples according to established testing procedures. The screening department uses immunoassay to screen for different analytes in urine, oral fluid, blood and serum type samples.  Samples that screen presumptively positive then go on for confirmation testing.  This laboratory is fast-paced and performs a variety of high complexity testing including workplace drug testing, federal drug testing and medicated assisted drug treatment testing on urine, oral fluid, blood, and serum samples types. 

The Forensic Screens Technologist conducts qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses within a SAMHSA-certified drug testing lab and CAP and CLIA-certified clinical laboratory that includes:

  • Receiving urine, oral fluid, and blood specimens for testing; evaluate specimens and test orders; determine priority of work and batches to maintain acceptable turn-around-time
  • Work with immunoassays including ELISA; interpret data and test results
  • Evaluate raw and final data for accuracy; recognize and correct errors and unusual results; interpret results to produce a final report
  • Recognize unacceptable and unusual specimens and handle appropriately
  • Use quality control samples and proficiency samples
  • Follow quality control rules; monitor controls for error detection and take corrective action; maintain laboratory records, maintenance logs, quality control charts, reagent and standard logs, and worksheets
  • Maintain, calibrate, and clean laboratory equipment; perform scheduled and as needed maintenance and critical function checks recognizing significant changes in instrument function; troubleshoot as indicated
  • Perform all duties according to standard operating procedures and/or supervisor instruction
  • Maintain a fully operational understanding of chain of custody processes within the lab
  • Deliver quality patient care in the form of diagnostic and occupational testing while maintaining efficiency
  • Perform preventative maintenance and quality control with appropriate documentation

What You'll Bring:

  • BS in Chemistry, biology, clinical laboratory, medical technology or related discipline.
  • A willingness to learn and 0-2 years of experience.
    • Prior experience not required at Technologist Trainee level.
    • Minimum 1 year of laboratory experience required for Technologist level.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to meet established turnaround times.
  • Basic knowledge of the chemical composition, structure and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations they undergo.
  • Beginning ability to analyze data and accurately document and record results.
  • Written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and problem solving skills.
