Dev Ops Engineer

Carex’s partner is a Madison, WI-based Health Insurer.  They are seeking a DevOps Engineer to join their team. This position is open to both Contract and Direct Hire Arrangements.  Direct Hire candidates are limited to living in WI, IL, MO, or OK.

If you have broad DevOps skills and knowledge, and are interested in cutting edge technologies that make software development more efficient, this is a great position for you.  You will share ownership of DevOps practices for infrastructure as code, containerization, security, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, automated testing, automation workflows, and implementation of telemetry practices, in support of software engineering teams and business stakeholders. Every day, you will use your skills and talents to find ways to expand the efficiency and the effectiveness of our partner’s DevOps operations.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Develop tools, integrate and deploy systems, including but not limited to APIs, Web portals, containers, and virtual servers hosted on a Cloud environment that build the CI/CD value stream to enable the highly efficient delivery of high quality software.
  • Establish, promote and maintain DevOps process, policy, standards, and procedures.
  • Develop automated systems in a manner that conforms to development standards
  • Develop IaC (Infrastructure as Code) scripts to manage the configuration of platforms and the integration of 3rd party vendor solutions. Peer review or perform script maintenance and updates due to changes in requirements or implementations.  Oversee the setup and maintenance of test environments for manual and automated testing.
  • Partner with IT Security to ensure automation scripts, API’s, web portals, and cloud services adhere to standards
  • Develop frameworks for automated testing to validate requirements and the constraints of code deployment and design
  • Performance Testing: Develop frameworks for creation and execution of performance tests, which correspond to the needs of the validated requirements and the constraints of the design documents.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architects by participating in architectural and implementation design meetings
  • Manage the upgrade efforts of select technical and business applications.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors of select 3rd Party applications.
  • Effectively multi-task.  Deliver results when attention is divided.  Resolve and balance ambiguity in priorities.
  • Coach and mentor other members of the Dev Ops team.
  • Collaborate with peers in setting, maintaining, and evolving detailed design, development, and support standards for the CI/CD pipeline for on prem and cloud solutions.
  • Facilitate coordination of IT peers from software engineering development, security, server, and database teams for continuous integration, testing, and deployment activities.
  • Implement telemetry analytics for applications services and infrastructure
  • Communicate plans, status, and issues to higher management levels.
  • Make decisions considering a variety of situations and conditions.
  • Guide and mentor other team members, driving them towards implementing and adopting best practices and standards using the right architecture and technology.
  • Multi-task and manage multiple small to medium size projects in a cross-functional setting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline with an information technology focus.
  • Minimum of 6-10 years of experience in appropriate, related, and progressively challenging DevOps role, or administration tasks scripting and automation, IT platforms administration, Cloud operations, and other relevant IT infrastructure and IT security activities.
  • Technical proficiency in all development, design, planning, and quality tools and technologies in support of software development practices.
  • Understanding of hybrid runtime environments utilizing on-premise resources and AzureExperience with Python, .Net, Java, GitLab, ELK, Jenkins, Artifactory, SonarQube, Urban Code Deploy, Xray, JFrog, Terraform, Ansible, Cloud PaaS, IaaS, SaaS in Azure, AWS, GCP, OCI, etc.
  • Knowledge of microservices and leading technologies in support of CI/CD processes like Docker, Kubernetes
  • Experience working with customers and peers to develop solutions to complex business problems.
  • Professional demeanor, with the ability to model dedication and support for Company goals.
  • Experience working within a regulatory environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as evidenced by the ability to work and communicate effectively with management and employees at all levels.
  • Ability to make good decisions considering a wide variety of situations and conditions.
