Lead Data Scientist (Remote)

Our partner is team is building out the data on social determinants of health and the impact of social needs on healthcare outcomes and spending.  They will be combining the results of the work our care navigators will be doing across the country with potentially hundreds of data sources, from public government data sets to private health care claims records.  From this data they need a data scientist to help them determine what social service interventions are effective for which sub-populations, who should be prioritized for social care because it will lower their healthcare spending, and which clients would benefit from an early intervention before their social needs become severe.  

Responsibilities: 

  • As the first data scientist, build models for social risk scoring, stratification, and early detection of rising social risk working with the data asset created by our data engineering team.
  • Work with their product, engineering, and data strategy teams to ensure we have the right data on hand to be able to answer key business questions 
  • Help shape their care model by providing analysis and expert guidance to show what’s working, what isn’t, and how they can improve.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience working as a data scientist through the full life cycle of model development (acquisition, discovery, cleaning, analysis, model building & validation, iterative refinement and long term maintenance)
  • 1+ years of working with healthcare data
  • Able to effectively communicate the capabilities and limitations of data science as a discipline to the rest of the company
  • Fluency with Python and SQL
  • Ability to present complex concepts and data clearly to non-experts
  • Collaborative working style. Supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment

Nice to haves:

  • Prior experience as the first data scientist at a company
  • Experience in dbt, Apache Airflow, Great Expectations, or other similar technologies
  • Interest in (or experience with) people managing a small team
  • Prior work around social determinants of health 
  • Working experience with causal inference
