Carex is partnering with an insurance industry partner to identify an accomplished AVP, Information Technology– Chief Technology Officer to lead enterprise application development, engineering, architecture, and integration functions. Reporting to the CIO, this executive leader will define and execute enterprise technology strategy while driving modernization, innovation, and operational excellence across the organization. This role requires a proven Property & Casualty insurance technology executive who can align technology investments with business objectives, lead large-scale transformation initiatives, and build high-performing engineering teams that deliver measurable business outcomes.
What You’ll Do
- Define and execute enterprise technology strategy, architecture, and engineering roadmaps aligned with business priorities.
- Lead application development, engineering, enterprise architecture, and integration functions across the organization.
- Provide leadership for a technology organization consisting of 55+ employees and more than 100 contract resources.
- Manage technology budgets with accountability for approximately $20M in annual spend.
- Drive enterprise cloud strategy, platform engineering capabilities, and modernization initiatives.
- Lead the transformation of legacy and mainframe-based systems to modern technology platforms.
- Advance enterprise data infrastructure strategy, including data platforms, integration frameworks, and real-time data capabilities.
- Establish and mature Agile, DevOps, and platform engineering practices to improve delivery velocity, quality, and efficiency.
- Deliver highly available, resilient, and scalable application technology platforms with a focus on operational excellence.
- Embed security best practices throughout the software development lifecycle in collaboration with the CISO
- Improve engineering productivity through automation, standardized delivery practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Foster a metrics-driven culture focused on transparency, accountability, and engineering excellence.
- Lead adoption of AI-enabled solutions to improve business operations, customer experience, and organizational productivity.
- Establish enterprise AI architecture, integration patterns, and governance frameworks.
- Own and management the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Partner closely with executive leaders and business stakeholders to align technology capabilities with strategic goals.
- Lead large-scale technology transformation across the organization with cross functional teams.
- Strengthen governance, delivery discipline, and organizational change management capabilities.
What You’ll Bring
- 15+ years of senior technology leadership experience at the Director, VP, or CTO level within a Property & Casualty insurance carrier.
- Demonstrated success defining and executing enterprise technology strategy, architecture, and engineering initiatives.
- Proven experience leading large-scale modernization and transformation programs.
- Deep expertise in cloud technologies, platform engineering, DevOps, Agile delivery, and enterprise architecture.
- Strong background leading application development, software engineering, and integration teams.
- Experience managing departments/teams, that leverage direct leadership of employees and contract resources.
- Proven budget management experience with accountability for significant technology investments.
- Experience modernizing core insurance platforms and enterprise technology ecosystems.
- Familiarity with modern P&C insurance platforms and technologies.
- Strong understanding of enterprise data platforms, analytics capabilities, and real-time integration architectures.
- Experience implementing AI-enabled solutions and enterprise AI strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to align technology investments with measurable business outcomes.
- Exceptional executive communication, stakeholder management, and business partnership skills.
- Strong governance, organizational leadership, and cross-functional collaboration capabilities.
- Track record of building high-performing teams and driving a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Proven ability to establish KPI and KRI and metrics for the development Lifecycle and effectively leading managing team to these parameters
