Carex is partnering with a biotech industry partner to identify a Senior Scrum Master to support enterprise data initiatives in a 12-month contract. This individual will guide Agile delivery practices across complex, data-intensive environments, helping teams optimize flow, improve predictability, and deliver valuable outcomes. Working closely with Product, Engineering, Quality, and data teams, this leader will foster a culture of transparency, continuous improvement, and empiricism while supporting modern data platforms and integration efforts. This opportunity is based onsite in Madison, WI
What You’ll Do
- Establish and evolve Scrum, Kanban, or Scrumban practices based on team and organizational needs.
- Enable self-managing, adaptable teams through coaching, facilitation, and servant leadership.
- Partner with Product Owners to define desired business outcomes, maintain prioritized backlogs, and establish value measurements.
- Help development teams understand Scrum principles, Definition of Done, and incremental delivery practices.
- Promote agile ways of working and help cultivate an Agile mindset across the organization.
- Utilize delivery and flow metrics such as throughput, cycle time, work item age, work in progress, cumulative flow diagrams, defect rates, and forecasting models to identify constraints and improve delivery effectiveness.
- Guide teams toward sustainable delivery patterns by emphasizing finishing work before starting new initiatives.
- Serve in multiple capacities including teacher, coach, mentor, facilitator, change agent, and impediment remover.
- Facilitate respectful collaboration and help teams address conflicts and organizational impediments.
- Support data management and integration workstreams, helping teams navigate dependencies and maintain delivery flow.
- Collaborate with teams building and maintaining data pipelines and integrations, including environments leveraging Databricks.
- Advocate for data quality and reliability as critical components of successful delivery.
- Drive continuous improvement through transparency, inspection, adaptation, and experimentation.
- Participate in mentorship and professional development activities.
- Uphold quality standards and foster an inclusive, collaborative environment.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience serving as a Scrum Master supporting digital product and software development teams.
- Deep understanding of Agile methodologies and frameworks, including Scrum and Kanban.
- Strong knowledge of empiricism, iterative delivery, and flow-based principles.
- Expertise using agile metrics and reporting to drive delivery improvements.
- Experience influencing teams and stakeholders without formal authority.
- Proficiency with Agile tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and change management capabilities.
- Experience supporting enterprise data management, integration, and pipeline-focused initiatives.
- Familiarity with modern data platforms and environments utilizing Databricks.
- Understanding of data movement, transformation, dependencies, and data quality considerations.
- Ability to coach teams toward continuous improvement and sustainable delivery practices.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Advanced Scrum certifications, such as Professional Scrum Master II, are preferred.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
