Before I became a recruiter at Carex, I worked in healthcare IT and project management. Since diving into healthtech recruiting, I’ve loved bringing project management structure into my new day to day processes. A question I often get from folks is: “How do I kick off my job search?” Especially if you’re aiming to land a new role in early 2025, what can you do now to get ready? Let me share some tips to help you get started!
Immediate (November 2024):
1. Update Your LinkedIn Profile
- Make sure it reflects your current role and that you’ve updated your profile to include promotions you’ve received and skills you’ve gained.
- Dust off your headshot! If it is more than 3 years old, we recommend getting a new one.
2. Update Your Resume
- Make updates to your resume to show your current role and responsibilities. Don’t stop there! Review your entire resume for tense, responsibilities, skills, etc. and update your summary paragraph to reflect the big picture.
- Plan to keep this resume version as your initial draft/template, and then make edits and updates tailored to the specific jobs you apply for.
3. Connect with a Carex Recruiter
- Reach out to Carex and let us know you are looking! We’ll schedule a call to review your experience and discuss the type of role, industry, salary, etc. you are seeking in a future opportunity.
- We can help further refine your LI profile and resume to make any additional edits before you get completely active in your search.
Short Term (November – December 2024):
1. Identify Clear Goals
- Do you have specific career goals in mind around responsibilities, industry, title or salary? Get clear on those goals and write them down. Allow room for flexibility but refer to them as your true north.
2. Get Active on LinkedIn
- Turn on “Open to Work.” If you are currently employed, this doesn’t have to be the big green circle, but we recommend the behind-the-scenes status that will help recruiters know you are looking.
- Follow companies you are interested in. Read their articles and posts to gain an understanding of company culture and what they are currently focused on. Review their open roles and see if they have postings that you are excited about.
3. Start Networking
- Research and identify networking events taking place in late 2024 or early 2025. Clear time and join them.
- Not excited to hang with your 3rd cousin once removed for the holiday season? Think of it as a networking event! Ask about their employers and figure out if they have anyone in their network who they could introduce you to.

End of 2024 / Beginning of 2025:
1. Start Applying
- Apply to roles that align with the goals you’ve set.
2. Gather Feedback
- If possible, gather feedback from any rejected applications or interviews that didn’t move you forward. Incorporate that into your planning going forward. Pivot and adjust as needed.
3. Stay Positive
- Land your new role and share your great news with Carex!
