Carex is partnering with a health system industry partner to hire an Executive Director – Epic EHR to lead and evolve the organization’s electronic medical record strategy and operations. This position is pivotal in aligning technology with clinical and operational goals, overseeing a team of 60+ analysts across all Epic applications. Reporting directly to the VP & CIO, the Executive Director will work collaboratively with leaders across clinical, financial, and operational domains to deliver high-impact improvements in patient services and enterprise performance.

This is a hybrid position based in Maryland, requiring on-site presence 2–3 days per week at the offices. Relocation assistance is available for those not currently in the region.


What You’ll Do

  • Lead the daily operations of the Epic EHR platform, overseeing application analysts and ensuring the delivery of enhancements, upgrades, and maintenance efforts across all modules.

  • Collaborate across departments—including clinical, financial, quality, supply chain, and physician management teams—to drive strategic EHR initiatives that improve the patient experience and streamline operations.

  • Manage and coach a team of internal staff and external contractors, including Ambulatory and Inpatient application leads and their teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.

  • Maintain and prioritize a strategic roadmap and backlog for EHR enhancements; ensure timely and high-quality project delivery in collaboration with the IT PMO.

  • Serve as liaison to the third-party Epic hosting vendor, managing timelines, deliverables, and vendor accountability.

  • Provide executive leadership on Epic system governance and long-term strategy, identifying opportunities for refuel efforts, cross-training analysts, and enhancing support models.

  • Actively engage in hands-on implementation work alongside leadership responsibilities; this role requires both strategic vision and operational execution.

  • Drive improvements in clinical workflows and revenue cycle performance by collaborating with Clinical Informatics and Revenue Cycle teams.

  • Help position the organization for growth by designing scalable and adaptable EHR support models based on learnings from other Epic environments.


What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Finance, Public Health Policy, Economics, or a related field; a Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, etc.) is strongly preferred.

  • 8–20 years of progressive experience in the healthcare industry, with demonstrated leadership in Epic EHR management across clinical and revenue cycle domains.

  • Proven experience in a health system environment managing large Epic teams and guiding EHR transformation.

  • Hands-on expertise with Epic applications and governance models; familiarity with Epic Refuel or similar optimization efforts is a plus.

  • Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and comfort working in fast-paced, evolving environments.

  • Ability to balance high-level strategy with detailed implementation and action.


Compensation

$160,000–$210,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications. Relocation assistance is available.
