Carex is partnering with an Insurance industry partner to find a highly skilled and adaptable professional for a hybrid Oracle Database Administrator and Infrastructure/DevOps Engineer role. This unique opportunity is ideal for a technology generalist who excels in both traditional database management and modern DevOps methodologies. The role supports a fast-paced environment focused on innovation, system modernization, and close collaboration with development teams. This position can be performed remotely within the state of Wisconsin.


What You’ll Do

Database Administration (Approx. 40%)

  • Maintain, monitor, and optimize performance, availability, and security of Oracle 19c on-premise databases.

  • Perform routine database maintenance including backups, patching, and upgrades.

  • Provide cross-functional support for Microsoft SQL Server environments.

  • Assist with planning for upgrades to Oracle 23c and/or migration to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

  • Collaborate with Application and Data teams to align database design and performance with project requirements.

  • Serve as a technical liaison across teams, offering database architectural guidance and support throughout development cycles.

Infrastructure & DevOps (Approx. 60%)

  • Lead containerization efforts using Docker and Kubernetes and support infrastructure automation using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and ActiveBatch.

  • Design, implement, and support automated test environments and system configurations.

  • Explore and prototype AI-enhanced infrastructure solutions aimed at performance and scalability improvements.

  • Provide architectural guidance and support to development teams on infrastructure best practices.

  • Champion CI/CD pipeline implementation and modern observability tooling.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support production systems and address critical incidents.


What You’ll Bring

Required

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as an Oracle DBA, ideally with Oracle 19c.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server administration and performance tuning.

  • Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix systems, including shell scripting and system-level diagnostics.

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and at least one major cloud platform (OCI, AWS, or Azure).

  • Familiarity with DevOps toolchains such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for cross-team collaboration.

Preferred

  • Experience with Oracle 23c and/or cloud migration projects.

  • Background with enterprise job scheduling platforms.

  • Exposure to AI/ML infrastructure tools or research on AI-augmented systems.

  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and observability platforms (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).

  • Experience in the property and casualty insurance sector.
