Carex is partnering with a Pharmaceuticals industry partner to find a Facilities Technician II to support second-shift operations, starting at 1:00 PM. This critical position serves as the sole Facilities representative on second shift and plays a key role in maintaining the safety, functionality, and efficiency of manufacturing and building infrastructure. The role offers scheduling flexibility with the option of a 4-day workweek (Monday–Thursday, 10-hour shifts) or a traditional 5-day schedule (Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts). A 10% shift differential applies.
This position requires on-site work in Madison, WI.
What You’ll Do

Act as the primary point of contact for all facilities-related matters during second shift, handling maintenance issues and decision-making independently.

Respond promptly to urgent situations such as leaks, outages, or equipment malfunctions, prioritizing safety and business continuity.

Perform a wide range of hands-on maintenance tasks across carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC support, painting, general cleaning, and repairs.

Conduct regular inspections of building systems to identify maintenance needs proactively.

Accurately complete and document work orders, inspections, and repair records.

Coordinate and oversee third-party contractors and OEM technicians to ensure high-quality and compliant service.

Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to support emergency maintenance outside of normal business hours, including weekends and holidays.

Maintain inventory of spare parts and consumables to support minimal downtime and operational readiness.

Adhere to all EH&S standards, internal procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements including cGMP, FDA, and OSHA guidelines.

Provide clear and consistent shift handoffs through logs, documentation, and in-person communication with first-shift personnel.

Continuously build technical knowledge and improve problem-solving and communication skills.

Perform other duties as assigned to support overall facilities performance and safety.
What You’ll Bring

High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certifications a plus.

Minimum 5 years of hands-on facilities or building maintenance experience.

Proficiency in basic carpentry, painting, drywall repair, minor electrical and plumbing tasks, and HVAC troubleshooting.

Strong troubleshooting and prioritization skills, especially when working independently or during off-hours.

Proven ability to assess real-time risk and respond with appropriate safety-first decisions.

Experience working in regulated environments, ideally with knowledge of GMP, FDA, OSHA, EPA, and EH&S standards.

Ability to read and interpret SOPs, technical manuals, and maintenance documentation.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and familiarity with digital work order systems (e.g., CMMS).

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for accurate documentation and cross-shift coordination.

Professionalism, initiative, and a customer-focused mindset with a consistent delivery of high-quality work.
Preferred

Licensed journeyman (e.g., electrician or refrigeration technician).

Previous experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or similarly regulated environments.

Familiarity with cGMP/cGDP and CMMS systems for asset and maintenance tracking.

Resides within commuting distance and available for occasional off-hours support.
