Carex is partnering with a mission driven Wellness / SDoH startup partner to hire a Head of HR & People Operations.

Summary

The Head of HR & People Operations will serve as a key leadership team member, owning the full employee lifecycle—from attracting and hiring new team members to managing performance, compensation, and retention. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role will shape and scale the People function in alignment with company goals and mission. The ideal candidate brings over a decade of experience in high-growth, venture-backed companies, is energized by the opportunity to build from the ground up, and is passionate about creating an exceptional employee experience that enables organizational success.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and lead a strategic People Operations roadmap that aligns with company objectives and serves as a competitive advantage

  • Define and manage People Operations OKRs in coordination with broader company OKRs

  • Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing People Operations team

  • Design and implement a scalable, effective recruitment process and recommend suitable applicant tracking systems

  • Lead end-to-end recruitment efforts and ensure a transparent, timely offer process

  • Improve onboarding experiences to help new hires succeed from day one

  • Create and manage a company-wide employee development and performance program

  • Design and implement a career leveling framework that supports internal growth and advancement

  • Develop tools and training programs that foster effective peer and manager feedback

  • Manage the annual performance review process

  • Ensure benefits remain competitive and aligned with company goals to support attraction and retention

  • Conduct market-aligned compensation benchmarking and lead annual compensation review cycles

  • Ensure compliance with all HR-related laws and regulations, including payroll and employment practices

  • Serve as a trusted resource to team members for issue resolution and support

  • Champion a values-driven culture where employees feel safe, included, and empowered

  • Partner with leadership to sustain and evolve a mission-aligned company culture

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience building and leading HR/People Operations in fast-growing startup environments

  • Proven ability to support companies through the transition from early-stage to high-growth scale

  • Experience designing and optimizing organization-wide initiatives such as onboarding, development, and performance programs

  • Familiarity with managing third-party recruiters and ATS platforms

  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities

  • Excellent internal communication and change management skills

  • Expertise in crafting benefit and compensation programs that attract and retain top talent

  • Data-driven decision-making ability to optimize people operations systems and processes

  • Deep understanding of the challenges and dynamics of scaling within venture-backed tech companies

Compensation

  • Base salary range: $130,000–$180,000
