Carex is partnering with an early stage mental health tech startup partner to hire a strategic and hands-on Head of Revenue Cycle Management. This role is ideal for a high-growth, startup-minded leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and is equally comfortable in the weeds and at the strategy table. As a foundational team member, the ideal candidate must have a builder mentality and a strong track record of developing scalable revenue cycle functions within technology-forward healthcare startups. NYC-based candidates preferred, but remote candidates with exceptional experience will also be considered.
What You’ll Do

Lead and own the full revenue cycle function—coding, billing, collections, and denial management—for a growing outpatient mental health network.

Initially operate as a player-coach, stepping into current responsibilities while building long-term strategy for the RCM team, infrastructure, and offshore capabilities.

Rapidly identify inefficiencies and reduce billing cycle iterations through process redesign and root cause analysis of denials.

Drive end-to-end reimbursement success and maintain best-in-class KPIs such as clean claim rate, days to pay, and net collections.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders, translating complex RCM concepts into practical guidance for both clinical and operational partners.

Work closely with Product and Engineering to optimize internal tools and evaluate new AI-driven technologies to automate and enhance revenue cycle operations.

Develop strategic headcount plans, including potential expansion of offshore resources and creation of intermediate team layers to support scale.

Serve as a key partner in the company’s long-term operational growth and financial performance.
What You’ll Bring

6+ years of experience, including a minimum of 2+ years in hands-on Revenue Cycle Management at a venture-backed startup.

Proven success in designing and scaling revenue cycle systems from limited infrastructure to high-performing, tech-enabled operations.

Deep understanding of billing processes across payers, including Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and complex commercial ASO plans.

Exceptional attention to detail and a process-oriented mindset—recognizing that clean execution and documentation are critical to RCM success.

Strong preference for candidates with a technology-first mindset and comfort with evaluating and deploying RCM tooling.

Strategic thinker with a doer mentality—ready to build, execute, and refine processes in real time.

NYC-based candidates preferred, but remote candidates with exceptional experience will also be considered.
Compensation
Base Salary Range: $150,000–$180,000
Equity: Included; early-stage ground floor opportunity
