Carex is partnering with a financial industry partner to hire a Manager of IT Development. This person will lead a cross-functional team responsible for delivering innovative, reliable, and efficient technical solutions aligned with the strategic goals of the organization. This role oversees the full software development lifecycle, ensuring timely and effective execution of projects while building a culture of collaboration, growth, and accountability. This leader will be instrumental in guiding architectural consistency, modernizing technology stacks, and championing best practices across development efforts. This is a direct hire position and will be onsite in the Greater Madison, WI area.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and manage a team of software developers across multiple levels, fostering engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Oversee the design, development, testing, and deployment of enterprise solutions.

  • Drive standardization of development practices and technology usage across the team to ensure consistency and scalability.

  • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to align development efforts with strategic objectives and ROI-focused outcomes.

  • Evaluate and guide technical decisions, including architecture modernization, cloud strategy, and DevOps adoption.

  • Support the adoption of AI-powered development tools (e.g., GitHub CoPilot) to boost productivity and innovation.

  • Navigate budget processes and assess project feasibility through P&L and ROI analysis, balancing build vs. buy strategies.

  • Mentor team members and champion professional development through individualized coaching and upskilling initiatives.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • 7+ years of experience in software development, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership capacity.

  • Demonstrated success managing technical teams and delivering complex software projects from concept through execution.

  • Solid understanding of software engineering best practices, agile methodologies, and cloud-native architecture.

  • Hands-off but technically informed—able to guide decisions without needing to code.

  • Familiarity with modern tech stacks including JavaScript, C#, HTML/CSS, AWS, Kubernetes, and microservices architecture.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build consensus and influence across diverse perspectives.

  • Track record of stakeholder management and ability to build trust through transparent communication and collaboration.

  • Ability to operate in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a passion for continuous improvement and organizational impact.
