The base compensation for this position is anticipated to be approximately $100,000 – $145,000 annually, dependent upon experience. Full benefits are included. What You'll Do:

As part of the Chemistry Operations team, you will lead process control system projects and support ongoing operations for manufacturing equipment and utility systems. You will work both independently and in cross?functional teams on design and execution of projects, utilizing a strong understanding of PLC and HMI integration, process instrumentation, industrial networking, and electrical and control systems to ensure the reliable design and operation of new and existing manufacturing equipment and utility systems.

  • Lead Project Execution: Develop project approach, options analysis, execution plan, and engineering documents. Assume system ownership through the project delivery life cycle of planning, design, implementation, commissioning, and qualification. Track project deliverables and provides project status updates to company personnel and leadership. Exercises good judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

  • Ensure Reliable Design and Operation: Utilize expertise in PLC and HMI integration, process instrumentation, industrial networking, and electrical and control systems to guarantee the reliability of manufacturing equipment and utility systems.

  • Provide Guidance and Support: Assist in the installation and maintenance of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems. Support contractors during project implementation and support commissioning and qualification.

  • Lead Technical Troubleshooting: Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshooting on process control issues related to electrical, instrumentation, and process control systems.

  • Offer Subject Matter Expertise: Provide automation expertise during the assessment and execution of changes to the manufacturing process control system.

  • On-Call Support: Participate in after-hours on-call support rotation for the process control system.

What You'll Bring:

  1. Education and Experience: B.S. in Electrical or Chemical Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.

  2. Technical Skills: Proven experience with Rockwell Automation PLC and FactoryTalk View SE programming. Experience designing and reviewing process instrumentation, P&IDs, and electrical wiring diagrams/schematics. Applied knowledge of industrial network infrastructure (servers, switches/routers, Ethernet/IP, Devicenet, HART) and relevant codes and standards including ISA, NFPA, IEC, UL, and NEC.

  3. Project Management: Demonstrated experience leading engineering projects with little daily instruction. Strong organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.

  4. Self-Starter Mentality: Ability to handle multiple and changing priorities with assigned timelines, budgets, and resources. Strong safety mindset and outstanding critical thinking skills.

  5. Industry Experience: Familiarity with small molecule API/fine chemical manufacturing environment. Experience in a regulated industry and knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or cGMPs preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Knowledge of Rockwell PlantPAx DCS and FactoryTalk Suite (Historian SE, Batch, Assetcentre).
  2. Strong understanding of electrical design and installation requirements for hazardous area classifications.
  3. Understanding of Process Hazard Analysis methodologies.
  4. Working knowledge and experience with process control systems for small molecule organic chemistry manufacturing equipment and utility systems, including batch chemical reactors, filters, dryers, vacuum pumps, scrubbers, purified water, compressed gases and engineered heat transfer fluid systems.
  5. Experience in a regulated industry, and familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or cGMPs.
  6. Exposure to or beginning expertise in the integration of AI tools, including ChatGPT Enterprise, Esker Order Automation, MS Copilot and Deephow, for for integration in operational practices and workflows.
