Carex is partnering with a Biotech Company, to hire a skilled and experienced Senior Histotechnologist to join their high-complexity histology laboratory in Phoenix, AZ. This position plays a critical role in producing high-quality histologic preparations, supporting IHC and research workflows, mentoring team members, and ensuring readiness for CAP inspections—all directly supporting Exact Sciences’ mission to transform cancer detection and patient care.

What You’ll Do
The Senior Histotechnologist is responsible for performing highly skilled, complex histology procedures and providing day-to-day technical and workflow support in a fast-paced, high-throughput lab environment.
Advanced Histology & Technical Expertise

Perform complex and non-routine histology techniques including microtomy, H&E staining, IHC assay execution, and troubleshooting.

Conduct macrodissection of unstained slides using pathologist-provided markings.

Prepare reagents, controls, and solutions; validate incoming reagents and instrumentation.

Complete complex tissue preparation workflows for clinical and research samples.
Leadership, Training & Team Support

Provide daily guidance and technical oversight to Histotechnologists.

Act as a resource for technical questions and workflow decisions.

Assist with training, orientation, and competency assessments for staff.

Offer clear and constructive feedback; apply and integrate feedback from others.
Quality, Compliance & Documentation

Maintain stringent quality standards; escalate issues impacting quality or safety.

Assist in writing, revising, and maintaining SOPs and process documentation.

Support preparation for CAP inspections and maintain readiness against CAP Anatomic Pathology Checklist requirements.

Contribute to internal and external audits and inspection activities.
Operational Excellence & Process Improvement

Monitor and work through the histology task queue with minimal supervision.

Identify and recommend workflow and process improvements.

Assist with equipment specification, installation, maintenance, and calibration.

Provide summary reports on process or operational metrics as needed.
Cross-Functional Collaboration

Interact with pathologists, laboratory teams, and pharma services partners to ensure timely, high-quality output.

Support execution of clinical research projects for pharma clients.

Maintain open communication across teams and departments.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following education/experience pathways:

Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnician program + 6+ years laboratory experience
(one year may come from program completion) -
High School Diploma + 8+ years laboratory experience

Associate Degree in a scientific field + 6+ years laboratory experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific field + 4+ years laboratory experience
Additional requirements:

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications

HT (ASCP) or HLT (ASCP) certification

QIHC (Qualification in Immunohistochemistry), ASCP
