Senior Engineer, Artificial Intelligence – Madison, WI (Hybrid)
Summary
Carex is partnering with a BioTech industry partner to hire a Senior Engineer, Artificial Intelligence who will play a key role in developing and deploying advanced AI-driven solutions that support the organization’s mission of innovation and scientific excellence. This role focuses on implementing technologies leveraging Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Generative AI, and Large Language Models (LLMs). The Senior Engineer will collaborate across data science, ML engineering, and product teams to translate complex business needs into scalable, production-ready AI systems.
What You’ll Do

Support the execution of ML, NLP, and LLM deliverables aligned with enterprise AI strategies.

Develop and deploy custom AI and ML models for batch and stream processing pipelines, including data ingestion, preprocessing, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), and NLP/LLM model development.

Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, and software developers to integrate AI models into production systems and digital solutions.

Apply sound principles of AI governance, including data privacy, security, and bias mitigation across deployed systems.

Stay current with emerging AI, ML, and Generative AI technologies to recommend and implement innovative approaches.

Participate in system design, architecture reviews, and continuous improvement of AI frameworks and infrastructure.

Contribute to scalable and ethical AI model lifecycle management, from experimentation to deployment and monitoring.

What You’ll Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field; or High School Diploma/GED and 4+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.

3+ years of professional experience in AI or ML model development.

Hands-on experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and programming in Python.

Demonstrated experience working with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills with a deep understanding of ML/AI methodologies.

Knowledge of ethical AI practices, including data privacy, fairness, and transparency.

Proven ability to collaborate across cross-functional technical and business teams.

Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience deploying Generative AI solutions at scale.

Hands-on experience fine-tuning LLMs or SLMs, applying teacher-student frameworks, or implementing model distillation.

Familiarity with Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) methods for aligning LLMs with human feedback.

Experience with agentic AI frameworks or deploying agentic-based solutions.
