Carex is partnering with a leading manufacturer in residential and consumer durables to hire a Textile Engineer; focused on supporting product quality, manufacturing qualification, and product/process improvement efforts related to textiles. This role will lead and contribute to textile development and validation across multiple product categories and brands. The position reports to the Textile Engineering Supervisor and plays a critical role in both sustaining and innovating textile product performance.
This role is based onsite 3-4 days/week in Middleton, WI.
What You’ll Do
- Product and Process Specifications
- Support the creation and maintenance of textile specifications to ensure quality and consistency.
- Document textile product characteristics and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Build strong relationships with key suppliers and help develop testing methodologies to predict fabric performance.
- Problem Solving and Quality Improvement
- Lead investigations into textile quality issues, identifying root causes and recommending solutions.
- Participate in cost-saving initiatives and continuous improvement efforts with current suppliers.
- Manage textile testing and qualification processes when changes occur in materials or suppliers.
- New Product Introduction
- Collaborate with Product Managers and development leads on reviewing new fabric submissions.
- Lead textile qualification trials and coordinate all activities through established development stages.
- Manage trial plans, testing requirements, build lists, and performance tracking.
- Work closely with manufacturing and suppliers to evaluate and improve material performance.
- Conduct or oversee lab testing and finalize specifications for new materials.
- Present findings and risk analyses to support textile adoption decisions.
- Administrative and Other Responsibilities
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of projects, findings, and technical studies.
- Stay updated on advancements in textile processing and attend relevant industry events.
- Analyze production or quality data and prepare reports as needed.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Textile Engineering.
- 5+ years of relevant manufacturing and engineering experience in textiles, especially non-wovens.
- Proficiency in managing medium to large scope projects independently.
- Familiarity with textile production processes such as weaving, nonwoven formation, and fabric finishing.
- Strong understanding of textile testing, performance metrics, and color assessment.
- Technical skills in Microsoft Office, Smartsheet, and data analysis tools.
- Strong problem-solving and statistical analysis skills, including DOE knowledge.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong technical writing capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage priorities, timelines, and cross-functional collaboration effectively.
