Java Software Engineer

Carex’s partner is regional health insurance leader, looking to expand their team to support a large-scale technology transformation, as well as ongoing operational support.  They are seeking a Java developer to join their team in a permanent/direct-hire OR contracted model. 

This is a fully-remote position, although permanent hires would need to be based in one of the following states:  WI, IL, MO, or OK. 

What you’ll do:

  • Development: Create detailed design documents that reflect the needs of the business requirements and the conceptual and logical constraints of the solution architecture documents. Develop and enhance systems and provide systems support, such that the appropriate Support Level Agreement metrics are met or exceeded.
  • Build services using Java to access Operational Data Stores (ODS).
  • Testing: Create and execute unit and performance cases that correspond to the needs of the validated requirements and the constraints of the design documents.
  • Alignment: Collaborate with DHP architects by participating in the creation and refinement of conceptual and logical Solution Architecture Documents. Analyze project and work tasks. Provide estimates of scope, work efforts and dependencies. Identify issues, risks, and mitigation options.
  • Leadership: May lead projects or subprojects, providing direction to others on project teams. May produce business requirements on appropriate efforts and using the DHP requirements guidelines and standards. Facilitate coordination in development and support activities, with IT peers from other developer and infrastructure teams.
  • Coaching: Coach and mentor other software engineers. Collaborate with peers in setting, maintaining, and evolving detailed design, development, and support standards and processes.
  • Implement and Support: Deploy applications and systems. Support systems during the project transition phase, by remediating newly discovered quality issues. Facilitate the transition of applications and systems by creating appropriate support artifacts, and by conducting knowledge transfer sessions with other software engineers, as appropriate.
  • Communication: Communicate plans, status, and issues to higher management levels.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • One year software engineer experience, with experience working with customers and peers to develop solutions to complex business problems
  • Experience with Java or other object-oriented languages
  • Ability and willingness to learn and grow within our partner’s technical and people environments
  • Experience with Scaled Agile (SAFe) framework
  • Experience and exposure to cloud development environments with extensive source control and CI/CD
  • COVID-19 Vaccine required
